The city of Baltimore police department's officers have a critical need to remain connected to their command and control center and data resources at all times even as police cruisers travel in and out of varying wireless network coverage zones. Ecutel's Viatores secures all wireless communications from the cruiser and provides seamless roaming between disparate networks, leaving the police officers to focus on serving and protecting their community.
"We chose Viatores over the competition due to Ecutel's robust security architecture and its reliable mobility capabilities," said Michael Roosa, Baltimore city IT director and supervisor of the city's police force IT organization. Michael added, "the additional benefit of Viatores being standards-based was also attractive."
"When it comes to law enforcement, constant connectivity to the critical resources needed to secure the community is essential," said Tom Matthews, Ecutel Systems' president and CEO. "The city of Baltimore's police officers have a tough enough job keeping the public safe and using the Viatores product allows them to remain connected without having to worry about dealing with computer connectivity issues."
The Viatores software is based on two critical standards for security and inter-network roaming, IPSec and Mobile IP. The solution supports hardware-based encryption for high throughput, and advanced compression and network optimization for low bandwidth networks. The Viatores Server is available for Windows Server 2000/2003 and Linux and the Client is available for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP and Pocket PC 2003.
