California Bill to Ban Cell Phone Use by Drivers Passes First Hurdle

Goes now to California Assembly

A California bill by State Senator Joe Simitian would ban the use of cell phones by drivers of vehicles unless hands-free equipment is employed.

Senate Bill 1613 narrowly passed the Senate and now goes to the Assembly. Three states and the District of Columbia currently restrict cell phone use by drivers.
