California Communities Concerned About Telecom Franchise Bill

Telecommunications principles signed by 150 California cities

According to a publication of the California League of Cities, a draft bill in the House Energy and Commerce Committee in Washington, D.C., is cause for concern, as it may aid telephone companies that want to compete with cable for local video and Internet services without negotiating local franchise agreements. The League is urging members to contact their representatives, and has posted a set of telecommunications principles signed by 150 California cities, that addresses local revenues, rights of way, access, public safety services and more.
