The digital automated red light enforcement program is a targeted effort to reduce red light violations.

The warning phase of the Corpus Christi red light camera system began at noon Monday, March 26. Red light violators could begin to receive warnings in the mail as early as next week.

The digital automated red light enforcement program is a targeted effort to reduce red light violations. During 2006 over 1,213 violations were issued with 255 involving collisions and 2 fatalities.

There will be a 30 day grace period for warnings regarding the red light violations. After the 30 day grace period, citations will be sent with instructions regarding paying the fine or appearing in municipal court in order to contest the citation. The fines will be $75 for the first two citations within a one year period and $150 for any violation after.

The citation will include three pictures regarding the violation with pictures of the vehicle before and during the violation along with a picture of the license plate. Citizens will also have the opportunity to go online and view the actual footage of the violation. Once a violation is issued, drivers have the opportunity to pay the fine at municipal court, contest the violation with a court hearing officer and finally appeal with a municipal court judge.
