Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner announced today that she has signed Senate Bill 235, which requires the Department of Health and Social Services to release cancer incidence rates to the public while ensuring that the release of such information will not identify individuals who have cancer.

This legislation, proposed by Lieutenant Governor John C. Carney, Jr. and sponsored by Senator Patricia Blevins and Representative Pamela S. Maier, also requires that a map is created for each county that illustrates cancer incidence rates.

"The people of Delaware should be able to obtain as much cancer information about our state as they can without jeopardizing the privacy of any of our residents with cancer," Gov. Minner said. "I believe this bill will make that possible."
