New App for Mowing Stretches Across Country

Mowz, a free mobile app that allows customers to schedule a lawn mow, pay for it through the app and receive a picture of the completed job, launched in Fredericksburg, Va. Wednesday

Tired of one of summer’s most odious chores?

You’re in luck, Fredericksburg residents.

Mowz, a free mobile app that allows customers to schedule a lawn mow, pay for it through the app and receive a picture of the completed job, launched in Fredericksburg Wednesday.

The product was originally launched in November 2013 as an on-demand snow-plowing app. That app, called Plowz, is also available.

“The app was very successful and we ended up in over 20 cities by the end of winter,” said co-founder Wills Mahoney. “During that time we developed the Mowz App, which was released this May. We are now in 30 cities across the country.”

Those needing lawn services can find the app on the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store. They can also order the app directly from the Plowz and Mowz website or its concierge service at 800/489-8128.

Lawn services include mowing, edging and blowing of the property.

The app calculates an exact cost before an order is placed. Once the job is complete, the customer rates the job and can keep the same provider, all of which are local, for future orders.

Local lawn service providers are also encouraged to sign up, which they can do for free, Mahoney said. Providers are not required to accept all jobs, and they only receive jobs within their region.

“Fredericksburg was a great market for us to get into,” Mahoney said. “We had a lot of interest on both the consumer and provider side, and given the demographic profile of the area, we expect the app will be as, or even more, successful as it was in similarly sized cities.”

The app will also be expanding to Richmond and will be live later this week in the Hampton Roads area.

The company plans on providing the winter Plowz services as well in the area.
