New York City Housing Authority Named a PTI Innovation Lab for Broadband Over Power Line Proof of Concept

Public Technology Institute (PTI) has recognized the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) as an Innovation Lab for its Broadband over Power Line (BPL) in-building network proof of concept.

NYCHA evaluated BPL technology and developed a business plan to provide a cost-effective solution to replace legacy building door control and intercom systems (which currently cannot support multifunction communication and broadband for high-speed Internet connectivity) and to upgrade the security cameras in the agency's housing developments to a BPL-based system.

As an Innovation Lab, NYCHA will share information on the project and serve as a resource for government officials interested in leveraging existing building power line infrastructure to enable:

Smart building technology such as remote asset and temperature monitoring
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) including intercom services
CCTV/video surveillance
High-speed Internet for residents.
