Organizations Launch Second-Wave H1N1 Flu Preparation

The impact of the pandemic during the second wave could worsen as larger numbers of people become infected.

As the fall influenza season approaches, a number of organizations are posting plans for continuity of operations. In addition to the normal outbreak of flu, the H1N1 Swine flu virus is expected to reappear. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell's Office of Administration, for example, posted Pandemic Preparedness -- Working from Remote Locations that includes policies and procedures for teleworking and a management directive for executive branch agencies.

The Centers for Disease Control and Flu.gov have posted information, including frequently asked questions and other resources related to Swine flu, such as prevention, flu shots, what to do if you become ill, how to avoid contracting the disease, etc. According to the World Health Organization, even if the current pattern of usually mild illness continues, the impact of the pandemic during the second wave could worsen as larger numbers of people become infected.
