Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation Adds Online Scheduling

Drivers can schedule a driver's test over the Internet.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The state's Department of Transportation has rolled out a new service on PENNDOT's Web site -- scheduling driver's tests online.

"Online driver-test scheduling allows individuals to schedule the road-test portion of most non-commercial, commercial and motorcycle driver's tests and written special-point tests over the Internet rather than at one of PENNDOT's driver-license centers," said Transportation Secretary Bradley Mallory.

Customers will need to know their PA driver/ID number found on their learner's permit or drivers' license, date of birth and the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Pennsylvania drivers can print out a driver's-test confirmation that includes a confirmation number for the type of test scheduled, the date, time and location of the test in addition to a link to Map Quest providing directions to the requested exam site.

Customers may also cancel or reschedule the appointment online at any time prior to the scheduled test time by logging back onto the website and re-entering their personal information. Same day tests cannot be scheduled for road tests.

Drivers who are 16 and 17 years of age can schedule their road test in advance, but the online scheduling service will not allow them to schedule an appointment that falls before the six-month required practice period. The eligibility date is printed on the young driver's learner's permit. Young drivers also will need certification from a parent or guardian 21 years of age or older that they completed 50 hours of supervised behind-the-wheel skill building before the road test can be taken.

In addition to deploying online driver-test scheduling, PENNDOT also implemented a statewide exam scheduling phone number for customers who do not have access to the Internet.

After completing any online transaction, customers are encouraged to complete the online services survey to help PENNDOT continue to improve its Internet transactional services. Customers also have the opportunity to recommend future online services.
