Public Hearings Scheduled For Proposed California High Speed Rail Service

These formal hearings are an excellent chance for the public to learn more about how we can benefit from these opportunities and provide input."

The California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) will host a public scoping meeting in Anaheim on Wednesday, April 11.

The CHSRA is proposing high-speed train service from Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego in the south to the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento in the north. This system is forecast to carry as many as 100 million passengers annually by the year 2030.

"We are excited about Orange County's future transit opportunities and the impact high-speed rail will have on the economic viability of Anaheim and Orange County," said Curt Pringle, CHSRA Board Member and Mayor of Anaheim. "These formal hearings are an excellent chance for the public to learn more about how we can benefit from these opportunities and provide input."

The proposed alignment for the Los Angeles to Orange County segment will travel along the existing Los Angeles -- San Diego Rail Corridor (LOSSAN) between Downtown Los Angeles' Union Station and the Anaheim Regional Transit Intermodal Center (ARTIC), which is planned to be the biggest transportation center in Southern California. The system could potentially continue southbound to Irvine.

"The statewide high-speed rail service will use environmentally-friendly trains to reduce highway traffic, improve many city streets, provide an alternative to regional air travel, and add as many as 450,000 jobs to California's economy," said CHSRA Executive Director Medhi Morshed.

The project is currently undertaking a project-specific environmental review. This initial phase includes scoping meetings along the proposed corridor to provide members of the public with an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide input to the process.

A scoping meeting was held in Los Angeles on April 5 and another one will be held in Norwalk on April 12.

Members of the public are invited to attend any of the following meetings:
Anaheim: Wednesday, April 11 from 3-5 p.m. and 6--8 p.m., Anaheim City Hall West, Gordon Hoyt Room, 201 South Anaheim Boulevard, Anaheim
Norwalk: Thursday, April 12 from 3-5 p.m. and 6--8 p.m., Norwalk Arts and Sports Complex, Multi-Purpose Room, 13000 Clarkdale Avenue, Norwalk
