The Hacker Lab, a maker space in Sacramento’s midtown district, is partnering with Consolidated Communications to bring gigabit connectivity to the facility by Thanksgiving.

The lab’s organizers already are brainstorming ideas for how the super-fast broadband, which is more than 100 times as fast as the California average, could be used in future projects. Preliminary ideas include addressing public-sector efficiency and utilizing the extra bandwidth for an entrepreneurial challenge, according to a post from Valley Vision.

Located at 1715 I Street, the Hacker Lab founded by Charles Blas, Gina Lujan and Eric Ullrich was recently named one of the top 75 coworking spaces in the U.S. by Symmetry50.
The lab, which is sponsored by Intel and VSP, has a 3,000 square-foot coworking space, a 3,500-square-foot industrial workspace with woodworking and fabrication tools and an electronics lab, a hacker community, and meetup classes.

This weekend the collective is hosting the SMUD Energy Game Jam, a 30hour challenge where creators will make HTML5 games with an energy theme. The utility wants a game that will entertain visitors in its lobby. Cash prizes will be awarded to winning entrants.
