Michael L. Moore, CIO of San Diego County, announced last week that he will be leaving the county. "I have notified my bosses that I have commenced a search," said Moore when contacted by Government Technology. "The county has issued a requisition for my replacement. We do not have a timetable set at this point and we are working collectively to make a smooth transition."

San Diego County was the first municipal government to outsource all IT functions to the private sector.

Last year, the county selected Northrop Grumman Information Technology (NGIT) as its new outsourcing contractor for Information Technology (IT) and telecommunications. When the transition is complete, NGIT will have over 300 people supporting the County's IT and telecommunications.

Moore was selected for his "Demonstrated Leadership in Information Technology" in the "Best of California Awards for 2005," and was also selected by Government Technology magazine as one of its "Doers Dreamers and Drivers."
