South Australia Government to Study New York City's Housing IT

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), along with the NYC Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications (DoITT) and the Health & Human Services-Connect Project (HHS-Connect) will be the subject of an international study tour to be conducted by the South Australia government Department for Families and Communities-Housing (Information and Communication Technology) ICT unit. The purpose of the Study Tour is to increase the likelihood of Housing ICT's success in its systems modernization and enterprise architecture initiatives by examining first hand and collecting lessons learned from the approaches of other like organizations.

Anthony Pertl, a member of the ICT Solutions Project Team will be spending several days in New York City to obtain direct insight into NYCHA's Information Technology governance process, including its award winning ePMO, and other business-driven IT initiatives as described in NYCHA 's Information Technology Strategic Plan, as well as the into the City's Enterprise Technology Architecture initiative as described in DoITT's PlanIT, New York City's First-Ever Comprehensive Technology Strategy. Pertl will be hosted by NYCHA Deputy General Manager for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, Avi Duvdevani, as well as by DoITT's Director of Enterprise Architecture, Anthony Insolia and members of the HHS-Connect team. Pertl was awarded a grant for the international study tour in the U.S. and Canada as a result of his proposal submission which cited best practice IT governance and ETA examples such as those described above.

South Australia's Department for Families and Communities brings together a range of services for those who are economically and socially vulnerable in the community (children, young people, families, people with disabilities, the ageing and the homeless). The Department's strategic agenda "Connecting the Future" charts the strategic direction for the Minister's portfolio areas in housing, the care and protection of children and young people, disability and ageing. Housing ICT Solutions provides strategic system development and business systems analysis to underpin Housing SA's operations and strategic direction. The division aspires to contribute to improved housing services and the long-term ICT Strategic direction of the Housing SA by improvements in Housing ICT systems development, the provision of high quality information and advice for decision making and systems to support service delivery.
