Howard County, Ind., Expands Electronic Notice System

Once enrolled, a citizen will receive advance email notification of all regularly scheduled public meetings and special public meetings of the commissioners and the council.

(TNS) -- Howard County residents can now receive electronic notice of public meetings scheduled by the county board of commissioners and the county council. This notice is in addition to the legal notices required by statute.

The commissioners and council members directed the County Information Systems Department to create a “public notices” link in the county’s new Everbridge mass notification system.

Once enrolled, a citizen will receive advance email notification of all regularly scheduled public meetings and special public meetings of the commissioners and the council. Other county boards and commissions may be added at a later date.

“One of the features that we liked about the Everbridge system when we were researching it was the ability to do more than notify the public about emergency situations,” Howard County Commissioner Paul Wyman said.

Citizens may sign up for the service and choose how they want to be contacted.

“We are pleased that this state-of-the-art technology can be used to keep the community informed about emergency situations, as well as information about meetings and notices,” said Dick Miller, president of Howard County Council.

“This is a great opportunity for those that have not signed up for the emergency notifications to do so as well,” said Commissioner Tyler Moore. “This technology is cutting edge and we are thrilled to have it here for our residents.”

Those wishing to sign up for county commissioner and council public notices should access the county website, click on the link citizen alert and check public notices.
